Fuji & Pagoda
In 1831, the great Japanese artist, Hokusai, created a series of woodblock prints entitled Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. Hokusai was obsessed with the mountain and devoted much of his life to capturing its beauty. Modern Japan may be synonymous with high technology and miniaturization, but this giant conical volcano remains as the country’s most revered symbol. Fuji spends most of its days blanketed in cloud, but just after dawn it stands out proud on the skyline. The pagoda at Fuji Yoshino provides a perfect early morning view of the snow capped mountain.
